The American Legion Post 47 - HOUSE RULES 


RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY
The House Rules of the Louis Teistler Post 47 stipulate that Post members should be aware that, within the framework of Post business, the Post becomes subject to Federal, State, County, and local regulations and licensing, which fall outside the realm of American Legion Authority. Therefore, the Executive Committee is empowered to implement special rules to comply with these requirements. The Executive Committee shall have the Authority to formulate and enforce rules of conduct as necessary for maintaining good order in the Post home, subject to approval by the Executive Committee.
The house rules intend that all people will always conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the standards of the Post and ensures adherence to the following behaviors:


Article 1 – LOUNGE ACCESS AND POST-HOME OPERATIONS
Section: 1

1. The Lounge encompasses the bar and kitchen on the lower level.
2. The Bar is where beverages are served, and seating is around the Bar counter and tables.
3. The Banquet room on the upper level comprises the Kitchen and the Bar and is available for rent for more significant events.


Article 2 - LOUNGE HOURS AND GENERAL INFORMATION
Section: 1
1. The Executive Committee sets and approves all the hours displayed behind the bar. However, all hours are subject to change, provided they comply with the State of Michigan's Liquor Laws.
2. The Facility manager and Post commander have the right to close the bar, and members must leave the building due to inclement Weather or emergencies.
3. The facility manager or post commander must approve hours beyond regular hours that are open due to events.
4. All participants must leave the facility by the posted closing time.
5. The last call at the bar is the closing time as posted.
6. The last call entitles the patron to one (1) drink at or before closing.
7. All members and guests are expected to dress in an appropriate manner. Service may be refused to anyone who fails to meet these standards.
8. Profane or obscene images or wording are not allowed on clothing.
9. The public display of disrespect toward any Post officer or employee, or the flag, is prohibited on clothing.
10. Footwear is required. For safety reasons, please refrain from bare feet.
11. Lounge Hours are as follows.
• Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm
• Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays 12:00 pm – 11:00 pm Article 3 - GUESTS/ADMITTANCE Section: The following individuals will be admitted to the lounge and Post area (current affiliation identification card must be presented if requested)
1. Current members of the American Legion.
2. Current members of the American Legion Auxiliary.
3. Current members of the Sons of the American Legion.
4. Current members of other non-profit Veterans Service Organizations or Active-Duty personnel.
5. Only service animals shall be allowed inside the facility.
6. No firearms or weapons are allowed on the premises.
7. No alcoholic beverages are to be taken from or brought into the facility at any time.
8. No alcoholic beverages may be served or given to anyone under 21.
9. No person under 21 is permitted to sit at the bar.
10. A current member must be in attendance with all sponsored guests before participating in any Post events on and off the property. The member who invites the guest is responsible for the guest's actions during the visit. If a member leaves, all guests must leave. All actions, damages, and disturbances are the responsibility of the Post member.
11. Members are limited to sponsoring up to thirty-five non-members and their guests, subject to prior approval from the Post Commander.
12. Minors are prohibited from playing games of chance, purchasing, handling, or consuming alcohol, smoking, or sitting at the bar.
13. Minors must leave the post lounge by 9:00 PM unless prior approval has been obtained from the Post Commander.


Article 3 – FACILITY AND GROUNDS
Section: Members are reminded that the Legion is a non-partisan, non-sectarian organization, and all political, religious, or personal arguments are strictly prohibited. This does not preclude freedom of speech or the orderly discussion of any subject that is not subversive or contrary to American principles. However, unnecessarily loud or protracted arguments or discussions that annoy others are prohibited.
1. The lounge's operating hours and days shall be prominently posted.
2. Only a post officer, a Facility manager, or a bartender is authorized to adjust the temperature, jukebox volume, and TV channels.
3. No use or possession of illicit or illegal drugs or substances is tolerated on the Post premises.
4. No exposed or concealed weapons of any kind are permitted on the Post premises.
5. Gambling is not allowed.
6. Smoking is allowed only in designated outside areas. Violation of the no-smoking rule will result in the loss of Post privileges and may lead to membership suspension or termination from the Post.
7. The Bartender, Facility manager, or Post officer is the only authorized individual behind the bar during regular business hours (notable exceptions include emergencies or assistance).
8. The bartender reserves the right to refuse service to anyone they believe to be intoxicated.
9. Any person giving alcoholic beverages to a person who has been “cut off” by the bartender in charge will forfeit their remaining drink(s), and both individuals must leave the premises
10. Loud, boisterous, profane language, complaining about the Post, or individuals, gestures, and threatening or racist remarks will not be tolerated on the premises. An initial warning will be issued, but it is at the discretion of the Bartender or Facility manager whether that individual or group should be ejected.

11. The purposeful destruction of property on the Post premises will not be tolerated, and the offending individual(s) will be asked to leave the premises immediately. The bartender or Facility manager will determine if proper authorities should be called. The Executive Committee may review the offending individual's behavior, and the privilege may be suspended or revoked pending a decision by the Executive Board.
12. Battery on post property will not be tolerated; the offending individual(s) will be asked to leave the premises immediately. The Bartender or Facility manager will determine if proper authorities should be called. The Executive Committee may review the offending individual's behavior at a meeting and suspend or revoke privileges pending the outcome and resolution of that meeting. (Battery is defined as intentionally causing physical harm to another individual in a hostile manner.) Article 5 - GAMES OF CHANCE Section:
1. Players must show their active membership card to be reimbursed for pull tabs or drawings.
2. Guest players must provide pull-tab tickets to the sponsor to redeem.
3. All reimbursements must stop at the last call.
4. Individuals with any issues regarding the machines should contact the Commander, Facility Manager. Article 6 – KITCHENS Section:
1. Only authorized people will be allowed in the kitchen.
2. Individuals using the kitchen shall follow health and sanitation guidelines set by the State of Michigan and the Kent County Department of
Health. 

Article 4 – PARKING AND PARKING LOT Section:
1. Parking spaces designated as handicapped will be reserved for members and guests with disabilities ONLY.
2. All vehicles parked in the designated handicapped spaces must display their handicap designation in an approved manner, either by an approved State license plate or a mirror hanger card.
3. Parking spaces marked employee or bartender are reserved for current shift employees. Article 8 – ENFORCEMENT Section:
1. The bartender on duty, the Facility Manager, or the Commander shall have the authority to enforce all house rules and may remove any member for misconduct or violation of these standing house rules. The commander and the Executive Committee will complete and review an incident report. Violations of the Post House Rules will result in the immediate suspension of all individuals involved until the reported incident is investigated, presented, and decided upon by the Executive Committee.
2. The executive committee may amend, change, or modify these rules at any time as needed. Upon updating any rule, the header date will reflect the most recent modified date; the executive board is the approval authority as of that date.


Article 5 - DISCIPLINE
Section: 1
1. Any Post 47 House Rules violation will be reported to the Executive Committee in writing and processed accordingly.
2. Any member who is disruptive, complaining, arguing, destructive, or violent towards others or the bartender(s) is subject to the following disciplinary action. The bar is no place to discuss Post or personnal business, problems, complaintaint, or anything that discourages others to participate.
a. First Offense – Verbal warning, possible suspension, and Loss of clubroom privileges.
b. Second Offense – Written warning, possible suspension, and Loss of clubroom privileges.
c. Third Offense – Suspension or termination of clubroom.

3. The bartender can report to such a person to the Executive Committee.
4. Offenses must be documented in writing and submitted promptly to the executive committee for review and a course of action.
